The Manatee County School Board will hold a public hearing Tuesday night on an updated code of conduct for the 2014-15 school year.

According to the Bradenton Herald, the 54-page document covers student and parent rights and responsibilities, attendance and discipline. The changes come from a committee of 24 district and school officials and community members and six students from the Manatee Youth Commission.

The proposed changes were presented at a board workshop in May and included a ban on e-cigarettes, which are catching on among students.

Although the board meeting starts at 5:45 p.m., the public hearing on the code of conduct is set for 7 p.m. at the school board building, 215 Manatee Ave. W.

Students and families will not receive a copy of the new code of conduct unless they ask for it. The policy will be made available online, in each school building and at the local library, officials told the Herald.
