Hernando County crews are filling a sinkhole that opened in a Spring Hill front yard Saturday, and they hope to begin repaving the surface Wednesday, officials said

The hole in front of a home at Eldridge Road and Van Allen Way opened around 5:20 p.m. Saturday. It grew to about 40 feet wide and 30 feet deep.

Engineering and geology experts have been at the site examining the hole and adjacent area for safety and potential for further collapse. Their report could be released Wednesday.

Residents of four homes were homes were evacuated, but officials have allowed people back into three of those homes.

Linda Fisher was not among them.

Fisher, who was out of town when the sinkhole opened up, had to remove as many belongings from her home as she could Tuesday morning.

"I never planned to move again," Fisher said while loading her car. "This was it and I had plans to renovate, but that's done."

Crews said there is no timetable on how long repairs may take, citing that weather could slow the effort.
