District 2 officials have hired a trapper to catch wild hogs that have been tearing up lawns and common grounds in Lakewood Ranch.

According to the Bradenton Herald, about five homes and several common areas along Lakewood Ranch Boulevard have been damaged in the last few weeks. The Edgwater and Canterbury neighborhoods have been hit the hardest.

Hogs love fresh grass and newly laid sod on neighborhood lawns, because it attracts worms and bugs. Baby hogs have been the biggest problem in Lakewood Ranch.

A Sarasota-based trapper previously hired by Lakewood Ranch has caught 16 hogs since March, according to the Herald.
