Community planners need your help solving Tampa's future transportation needs.

Raymond Chiaramonte, Executive Director for the Metropolitan Planning Organization, wants to know how you would plan Tampa Bay's future.

The M.P.O. is in the second phase of a detailed process to help design our city. It's called Imagine 2040. Last year they started the process with an online survey.

"And it was very successful. We got almost 4,000 detailed responses, which you don't get at a public meeting where somebody might give one sound bite or ask one question."

From those responses, community planners learned a lot.

“We learned that transportation is a problem, so we're not a bunch of planners looking for a problem that doesn't exist. I think people understand that public transit is important. They don't want us to waste money. We need to be thoughtful. We need to be incremental,” Chiaramonte said.

Imagine 2040 phase two is ready for your input.

"It's really important that people do this. If they want their community to be the kind of community they want, they need to get involved, especially younger people.  They need to get involved and say, we're planning for another generation,” Chiaramonte said.

Based on public input in phase one, phase two is a very simple five-step survey.

From their website, Imagine2040.com, select the items most important to you, then move each one to the top or bottom of the list. This creates a project list so policy makers can make good decisions.

The survey is available until Labor Day weekend. Everyone who fills out a survey between now and August 25th, also receives a free ticket to the home show at the Florida State Fairgrounds.
