A construction worker was killed early Wednesday in Lakeland when he was struck by a truck.

According to Lakeland police, 44-year-old Shelby Shull of Eustis was hit by a truck on south Florida Avenue just after 2 a.m. as he worked on installing crosswalks.

A witness heard a noise and saw several orange barrels knocked over and then saw Shull on the ground.

Officials said Shull came to final rest approximately 80 feet from point of impact in the inside southbound lane. Shull was wearing reflective safety clothing.

The vehicle, only described as a dark colored truck, with some type of built in animal cage in the truck bed, did not stop.
