Duke Energy is hoping to spread awareness to its customers to stay away from power lines through a live demo of blown fuses.

It's awareness that the company is hoping resonates with the public during especially during hurricane season.

Duke Energy crews demonstrated to the public on Thursday several scenarios that could cause power line fires or kill someone.

“We have weather events every day here, this is typical every day process of what we go through,” said Duke Energy Technical Skill Specialist, Ivan White.

The live voltage scenarios included tree branches touching power lines, a down line on a car and even what could happen if a pole used to clean pools touched a power line.

Crews say first responders and the public typically aren’t aware of these scenarios and their tragic effects.

“We want to make sure that they know that first and foremost to leave any down power lines alone,” said White.
