Polk County residents had the opportunity Wednesday to learn more about coyotes in their area.

According to our partners at the Ledger, a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation biologist gave a presentation about coyotes. Officials organized the presentation in response to a spate of cat mutilations in the Lake Bonny area in the past few months.

About 70 people attended the presentation, which was held in the Lakeland City Hall's commission room.  Many of the people who attended had one or more of their pets killed recently by a coyote.

Wildlife officials say the best way to protect your pets from coyote attacks is to keep them indoors.
