An 84-year-old Plant City man has died after a crash in which another driver ran a red light, authorities said.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Arthur Ingram was turning left from Rice Road onto County Line Road around 2:50 p.m. Saturday in a 2008 Nissan Sentra.

Derek McGowen, 44, of Lakeland was headed south on County Line Road in a 2010 Nissan XTerra and failed to stop at a red light, witnesses told investigators.

The vehicles collided in the intersection, and the Sentra was propelled 180 degrees before coming to rest on County Line Road.

Ingram, who was not wearing a seatbelt, had to be extricated from the car by emergency personnel. He was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead Sunday evening.

McGowen was not injured, even though his sport utility vehicle flipped onto its side.

Investigators said that neither speed nor impairment appeared to be factors in the crash, but it appears McGowen violated Ingram's right of way. Charges are pending, they said.
