Several companies interested in bidding on Manatee County's solid waste hauling business are worried they may not get the chance.

According to the Bradenton Herald, county officials want to renew the contracts with their two current waste haulers rather than throw open bidding to all companies.

Progressive Waste Solutions of Florida Inc. and WCA Waste Corp. of America are two of the companies that want to pitch their services, the Herald reported.

Last month, Manatee County commissioners unanimously approved a plan to proceed with a renewal of solid waste franchise agreements with Waste Pro of Florida Inc. and Waste Management Inc. of Florida.

Attorneys are still reviewing amendments as part of the renewal, Assistant County Attorney Maureen Sikora told the Herald.
