Former Gov. Charlie Crist says he will sign five executive orders on his first day back in office if he's elected in November.

Crist made the announcement Tuesday. He said he would order agencies under his control to require that contractors pay employees at least $10.10 an hour.

Our partners at the Tampa Bay Business Journal say that's a significant boost - not only for the contractor.

"The overall impact of a raise like that for minimum wage really does boost the overall economy a bit in terms of spending and people feeling confident," said Alexis Muellner, with the Tampa Bay Business Journal.

Crist also said he would sign orders banning discrimination against gay and transgender employees at agencies under his control and their contractors, and another to require equal pay for women.

Contractors would be required to, whenever possible, hire Florida companies as subcontractors. And Crist said he would sign an order to require agencies to provide public records at the lowest possible cost to the public.

Scott's campaign said in response that Crist's tenure as a Republican governor from 2007 to 2011 was "anything but fair to Florida's middle class."

"Charlie Crist thinks he can win this election by doing his best Barack Obama impersonation – all talk and no action," Rick Scott for Florida Chairman John Thrasher said. "And it’s telling that his new proposal includes no plans for job creation or education."
