After several unusually dry days for this time of year, expect big changes as we head into the weekend.

According to Bay News 9 Chief Meteorologist Mike Clay, moisture will surge back into the Bay area and set up a typical rainy season pattern.

On Friday, scattered thunderstorms will form in the afternoon, mainly over Polk County.

"We’ll go with a 40 percent chance on the 7-day but that is mainly inland," said Clay.

On Saturday, a east-southeast wind sets up with a huge surge of moisture that will last into Monday.

Clay said to expect active afternoon thunderstorms to develop quickly on Saturday and last through the evening.

Some areas of heavy rain are expected.

Sunday and Monday will be similiar, acccording to Clay, with good rain chances and some locally heavy.

The average temperature for July in Tampa was 83 which is exactly normal (based on a 30 year average).
