A historic building in downtown Palmetto is up for sale.

Built in 1912, the 8,000 square-foot building has old-fashioned charm, many original fixtures and tenants that include antique stores and a restaurant.

Norma Rae's restuarant owner Amy Cablish said she hopes whoever buys the building will preserve its historic image. The interior of Cablish's eatery was designed around the history of the building.

The walls have pictures of the once bustling 10th Avenue city scene and others of  when the restaurant was a confectionery store. Plus, Cablish has maintained the restaurant's tin ceilings.

But outside, the street mostly remains empty.

"I hope that they promote this street," Cablish said. "That they bring people in. That they let people know we're here. It’s a great little spot. It’s the heart of the little down town Palmetto and it’s a cozy little spot that most people don’t know exists."

The building, priced at about $900,000 is listed as an investment property.

The building is located in an area that was once Palmetto's agricultural center where products were packaged to be shipped down the Manatee River.
