A man was killed in a boating accident on the Little Manatee River in Ruskin on Friday, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife.

Authorities said two men and a woman were in a 20-foot boat and the boat somehow got tangled in the mangroves near River Drive SW, off of Oak Street SW.

One of the men was killed. Authorities have not released his identity.

"Unfortunately, we always recommend people pay attention to their surroundings,” FWC spokesman Baryl Martin said. “One of the main causes for boating accidents is people not paying attention to their surroundings and not having an observer, so we always recommend that and that they have safety equipment on board."

Officials haven't said how the man died.

The body was found face down in the water. A dive team from Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office went into the water to retrieve the body and collect evidence.

Officials won't say how fast the boat was going, but they believe alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.
