Detectives are looking for a man they said attached a credit card skimming device to several SunTrust bank ATMs around Hillsborough County.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, the man attached and removed skimming devices from ATMs at three banks between July 3 and July 7.  The targeted banks are located at:

  • 9601 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. E., Tampa
  • 403 Brandon Blvd. W., Brandon
  • 3511 Bell Shoals Rd., Valrico

Detectives said they found evidence that the suspect had attached the skimmers to the card readers using green tape and white two-sided tape.

Customers say it comes as a shock.

"Wow, I'm really amazed. I mean technology is growing, I'm sure people are getting clever. Thieves are getting clever. I didn't realize that," said Raul Vasquez.

Surveillance video taken from the Tampa back shows the suspect installing a long, thin silver box that contained electronic equipment.  Detectives said the box also contained a camera to record the customer's fingers while entering their PINs on the keypad.

Detectives say a broken green and silver card reader face plate was located in a nearby flower bed.
