Kyle Williams has been found guilty of killing Lakeland police officer Arnulfo Crispin in 2011.

Jurors had been deliberating for a day and a half.

Now that he has been convicted, Williams, 20, faces the possibility of the death penalty. Sentencing is scheduled for Monday.

The jury asked the judge one question if they could go to the crime scene. The request was denied. The jury was sequestered Wednesday night and continued deliberations Thursday morning.

Prosecutors and the defense gave their version of what happened during closing arguments.

"It’s not a situation where he’s in a gun battle with an officer. He simply ambushes him and executes him right in front of these guys. He points that gun at the most exposed and most vulnerable part of officer Crispin’s body. And he pulls the trigger…without hesitation," said prosecutor Paul Wallace.

"The suspect’s turned witnesses. All of them gang members, got together, operated in collusion to develop a plan to blame Kyle Williams for this. The four all met together in a minute or two after the shooting at the house of Mr. Jackson. They talk about the shooting. They concoct a story to blame Mr. Williams and avoid being charged," said defense attorney Chris Boldt.

On Tuesday, Williams broke down in tears while telling the judge he would not testify in his own defense. It’s the first time Williams showed any emotion during the three-week trial.
