Manatee County received a June-record $63 million in economic impact from hotel stays, an economist told the Tourist Development Council.

According to the Bradenton Herald, economist Walter Klages told the council the economic impact went up 13.7 percent from $55.3 million in June 2013 to $62.8 million for the same period this year.

The dollar figure translates into 124,200 room nights for the month, up 5.8 percent from June 2013.

The room occupancy rate also increased 6.2 percent over last year. The average daily rate was up 3.5 percent and revenue per room rose 10 percent.

"Tourism really lightens the tax burden of every citizen in the county," Klages told the council, according to the Herald. "Every one of you benefits from a reduced tax burden because this is what the industry brings."
