A popular landmark in Palm Harbor is being rebuilt.

The observation tower at Wall Springs Park burned down in a fire last September.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office has called the fire suspicious, but no one has ever been arrested.

According to Bay News 9's partner paper the Tampa Bay Times, Pinellas County Commissioners have approved building a replica of the tower that was destroyed.

The newspaper said it will cost about $870,000 but most of that will be covered by insurance.

The county will be spending close to $7,000 to fireproof the new structure.

Residents said they're happy to hear the tower will be rebuilt.

"We used to go there all the time," said Ludmila Matejikova. "We took a bike or you know, took a walk, watched the sunset, it was nice."

Other residents said there are some improvements they'd like to see in the new tower.

"One suggestion if they do rebuild it is to make it another story higher because of the tree line and stuff," said Adam Weston. "You really couldn't see the coast, you kind of just saw the tops of trees. It was interesting but again, if it was taller it would be much better."

Construction could begin as early as October and it's expected to take about six months to complete.

The county says while construction is underway residents won't be able to use the west side of the park.
