Police have identified the man shot in a home on Davis Islands early Wednesday as 23-year-old Andrew Tyler Noll.

Noll called 911 just before midnight to report that he had been shot in the chest. Moments later, Michal Simpson, 28, called 911 to report that she had shot an intruder in her home on the 400 block of Riviera Drive, Tampa police said.

Officers found Noll lying on the second floor of Simpson's home with a single gunshot wound to his chest. Noll was transported to Tampa General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say preliminary information indicates Simpson and Noll are acquainted. Detectives are still trying to determine why Noll was in Simpson's home and what led to the shooting.

That determination, along with evidence at the scene and witness interviews, will determine whether a crime occurred, police said.
