CSX officials said they are working to address complaints about freight trains blocking road crossings in Dade City.

Drivers were stuck Tuesday morning after a freight train stopped on the tracks for nearly two hours. This was the second time a train had blocked a Dade City road this summer.

On Friday, CSX spokesperson Kristin Seay said the company apologizes for the disruptions and they are making operational adjustments.

"CSX will make every attempt to keep trains running through Dade City except under emergency circumstances," Seay said in a statement.

Seay said CSX will make sure to notify local officials if a train is stopped, and that crews have been instructed to separate the train's cars at rail crossings so drivers can pass through.

Law enforcement officials said federal regulations governing the length of shifts that can be worked by crews are to blame, and that crews can only work up to 12 hours straight. Once that time is up, the crew must stop and wait for another crew to relieve them.
