On the second day of classes at Florida Polytechnic University, students are impressed after meeting the professors teaching them this semester.

Dr. Ryan Integlia is one of the professors at the new university. He has an expertise in photonics, digital systems, nanotechnology, and a list of other subjects. Though his subjects may be complicated, Dr. Integlia says his teaching method is pretty simple.

“Just making sure you listen to them and understand what actually inspires them and put that into the curriculum," said Integlia. "That’s what I’ve done. I’ve asked them 'what is it that makes you excited?'”

Students like Michael Holland said they are itching to soak up some knowledge from their professors this year.

“When they start talking, you’re like, I’m going to learn," Holland said. "That’s the kind of environment you want to be in.”

One professor at the school has almost 40 U.S. patents. Students say the roster of professors is going to take them to the next level.

“I remember hearing that they had a lot of backing here from a lot of big tech companies," said Florida Poly student Brian Clarke.

Clarke said it's important to students to have professors that know a lot about their fields.
