The voters have spoken in Citrus County.

The dust has settled after the primary and there will be two new faces on the county commission.

Scott Carnahan's campaign signs are still up and they must have helped. The political newcomer is set to join the Citrus County Commission later this year.

"There will be some shake up," Carnahan said. "Yes, there will be."

Carnahan won the Republican primary for the District 4 commission seat by beating former commissioner Winn Webb. He has no challenger in November. Carnahan said he brings business experience to the commission and his passion for protecting the taxpayer.

"We are looking forward to putting our plan into action and to start watching out for their money," Carnahan said. "Stop wasteful spending. Stop the projects that are not going to happen."

In District 2, Ron Kitchen beat incumbent commissioner John "JJ" Kenney. Kitchen has been involved in politics in Citrus County for a long time and he's one step closer to the county commission. Kitchen was Crystal River's mayor for 10 years.

"I believe the citizens of Citrus County made a clear choice," Kitchen said.

Like Carnahan, Kitchen is all about not wasting taxpayer dollars.

"Every elected person should be spending every dollar like they are opening up their own checkbook and writing their own check and if elected people did that there would be less spending," he said.

Kitchen will face a no party affiliation candidate in November.
