What started as a fender bender ended with a stabbing, Tampa police said.

The crash happened on MacDill Avenue, just south of Bay to Bay Boulevard. Police said traffic had come to a sudden stop when a 1998 white Toyota Avalon hit the back of a 2004 black Audi.

Police said the drivers of both cars pulled over into the parking lot of the Bay Oaks Apartments. The passenger of the Audi, identified as 36-year-old Robert Suarez, and the driver of the Avalon, 22-year-old Steven Baker, got out of their respective cars.

The men discussed the accident, then started arguing about it, police said.  That's when police said Baker and Torrie Worthy, who was a passenger in the Avalon, started punching Suarez.

Police said Suarez then pulled out a knife and stabbed Baker.

Suarez immediately started giving first aid to Baker, police said. Baker was taken to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries.

Suarez was treated at the scene for cuts to his head, wrist, legs and knees.

Detectives are still conducting interviews, and police said charges are pending.
