Lockdowns at Pinellas Park Elementary School and Richard Sanders Exceptional Education School in Pinellas Park have been lifted after a suspect search in the area.

Police were investigating a shooting in connection to a robbery/attempted homicide in the area of 70th Avenue & 52nd Street N shortly after 10 a.m.

The victim was transported to Bayfront Hospital.

According to police, this is what occurred; the suspect was walking down the street appearing to talk on his cell phone. The suspect walked up to an elderly man working on a rental property.

The suspect convinced the man to let him in the house, that's when the robber demanded money.

The victim told the suspect he had to go get it, tried to run and that's when he was shot in the arm.

The suspect fled on foot, prompting the lockdowns.

K-9 units worked the area for more than an hour. At 11:58 a.m., police called off the active search for the suspect and notified the area schools.
