Cristobal is expected to become extratropical later today as it races to the northeast.

According to Bay News 9 meteorologist Juli Marquez, Cristobal is moving toward the northeast near 49 mph, and this general motion with some decrease in forward speed is expected during the next day or two.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 80 mph with higher gusts.  Cristobal is forecast to lose its tropical characteristics later today, but it should remain a powerful extratropical cyclone over the North Atlantic through Sunday.

Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 265 miles.

Swells generated by Cristobal are affecting Bermuda and the New England coast. Large swells will also affect portions of the southern coast of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland during the next day or so.
