A 42-year-old Lutz man shot four people, killing three of them, after an argument broke out in a Brooksville home Friday night, police said.

The shootings happened around 9 p.m. at a home on the 800 block of Peach Street, just north of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Police say George Mason III shot and killed Tarasha Yata Townsend, 37, Ralph Ray Peyton, 29, and Jannie V. Taylor, 81, and injured Gabriel Frashawn Taylor, 33.

According to police, all five people were inside the home when an argument started. Mason drew a 9-mm handgun and shot Peyton, Jannie Taylor and Townsend, who was lying in the street when officers arrived. All three died at the scene.

Linda Stanley has lived down the street from Jannie Taylor of many years and is devastated to hear how she died.

“She was a good person," said Stanley. "She was just like a grandma and the boy Ralph that got shot he was a good person too, they were a good family.”

Gabrial Taylor ran west on Martin Luther King, but Mason chased and shot him multiple times near Main Street. Soon after, a pickup truck traveling on Martin Luther King hit Mason, leaving him with multiple broken bones.

Mason and Gabriel Taylor were taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point, where they underwent surgery. Taylor was in critical condition.

Mason faces three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, police said.

Peyton, Jannie Taylor and Gabriel Taylor lived at the Peach Street home. Mason and Townsend were in a relationship and lived together in Lutz, police said.
