Clearwater police officers hit the ice Saturday to help raise money for a fellow employee fighting cancer.

CPD support services employee Vicky Britton walked on to the ice at Tampa Bay Skating Academy in Oldsmar with the same smile her co-workers say brightens up the hallways of their department. Still, behind that smile, Vicky's fighting a battle against cancer.

This hockey game was to raise money for her treatments, and the guys on the ice playing were the same officers she works with. There were even some from other departments, including St. Petersburg.

"It's very humbling, it's very emotional. God has blessed me so much,” said Britton. “I'm going to start crying again. God has bless me so much with all these people in my life that I cannot begin to tell you how I feel."

"If you see Vicky she's a sweetie, I mean no if ands or buts about it,” said Cpl. Scott Ballard with CPD. “A lot of us were devastated by it, but Vicky the trooper that she is she just had the winning attitude that she was going to beat this and we are pretty confident that she will."

Also making an appearance was Jassen Cullimore, a member of the 2004 Tampa bay Lightning Stanley cup team.

The team also donated items for the auction, as well as other bay area businesses.

Britton is such a fighter, she's actually already back to work after going through chemotherapy and radiation treatments this year.  She still has more tests coming up, but said her doctors feel she may be in remission.
