A water spout came ashore in St. Petersburg on Sunday forcing three teenagers to run for cover.

"It just started coming towards the bridge like really quick," said Madison Murrian, 14. "We’re like, 'oh, we should go inside.'”

The three 14-year-olds, Murrian, Fredy Kennedy and Luke Kaleel said they were standing on a 62nd Avenue South bridge near 52nd Street South in the Bayway Isles community on Sunday afternoon when they spotted the water spout and pulled out their cell phones to capture it on video.

"We could see the rain coming. So, we were like, 'oh, this is cool," Murrian said. "So, we’re trying to get it on our phones and then you could just see the water spout forming."

The teens said once they realized the water spout was headed in their direction they began to flee on their bicycles.

"It started coming closer to us so we started biking away and it came right over us and we threw our bikes down and started running," said Luke Kaleel. "All these palm fronds and trees were bending over and flying away."

"The wind picked up and dirt was flying," said Murrian. "We just threw our bikes and started running and it was crazy."

"The street was like a wind tunnel for it," said Fredy Kennedy.

The teens said the strong winds took down palm fronds and tree branches on their street as they hid in bushes.

"We didn’t really know what to do," Murrian said. "We just kept running and tables were flying and chairs were hitting cars and dirt was hitting us in the eyes and in our teeth. It was insane.”

"It went over us and we were able to, right after it kind of went over us, we were able to get inside," Kaleel said.

The teens said luckily they were not hurt by those strong winds and there was no major property damage.
