A Polk County family has launched a new technology company - but with a twist.

High Resolution Information Technology is a computer company that focuses on computer repair, networking, and anything related to computer technology.

Here is where they differ from other technology companies: the company will use a bartering system to replenish the family's backyard farm in exchange for their services.

“We’re doing pay where you can afford,” said owner Jonathan Alexander. “We need decking wood. We need seeds. We need fruit trees ... fertilizer, all organic, so we would need rabbit manure or fun things like that. So we have a lot of things we’re interested in bartering for."

The family started growing their own produce so they wouldn’t have to grocery shop. It's become a new way of life for the transplants from Fort Lauderdale, but it’s one that’s catching on with some of their friends and family from home.

His brother Isaac has already opened two businesses of his own and is on the board at the Chamber of Commerce.

“I remember the day that I drove through Frostproof, came through town and it was just beautiful," Isaac said. "Situated in between two lakes, there’s all these old buildings and that got me excited because I saw so much potential here.”

Even though the most of the family is planting their roots in Polk County, the place you can trade wood for computer services is at High Resolution Technology. And that’s exactly what Alexander says will set him apart, bring the community together and help his family eat off the land.

The company owners say if you can’t make it out to Frostproof they can fix your computer remotely. All you have to do is pay what you can or barter something.
