Citrus County Animal Services has limited its ability to take new animals into its shelter.

Officials said the shelter is over capacity and cannot accept owner-surrendered animals right now. They will be able to accept those animals only when space is available.

People with pets they cannot or do not want to care for are encouraged to ask friends and family for help in finding caring homes for their pets.

Shelter officials also suggest using social media, placing ads in newspapers or contacting local rescue groups when looking for a new home for pets.

Please call 352-746-8400 during normal business hours to find out more about surrendering your pet to the shelter.
