A major deadline is looming and there still is no decision on the Kenneth City budget.

Kenneth City council members are still at odds over pay raises for some city employees. Some of the council members want to stay at a five-percent increase for the six city employees and insurance costs for police officers. Others council members are pushing for more.

After more than an hour of debate, no agreement was reached.

Several of the residents in attendance were no happy with the council's indecision.

"Can we get along and make a vote?" one resident implored the council. "If not, then let the governor suspend all of you because I’ll be the one that’s out walking and asking that.

"I don’t care what you vote on. Vote on something. You all said that you could get along. Make it happen."

A final meeting on the city budget is scheduled for Sept. 24.

If the council doesn't approve a budget by Sept. 30, the city could be shut down and taken over by the state.
