A 23-year-old Brandon man not wearing a seatbelt died after a rollover crash on Interstate 275 early Sunday.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Brett Gasperone was driving a 1994 Chevrolet coupe on northbound I-275 around 2:10 a.m. He failed to negotiate a slight left-to-right turn, lost control of the car and hit a guardrail.

The car continued northwest and overturned, ejecting Gasperone onto the middle lane of the highway, troopers said. Gasperone was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he later died.

Authorities originally misidentified the driver as Brett Gasperone's older brother.

The crash kept the northbound lanes of Interstate 275 closed for several hours.
