An event to remember 9/11 and all the lives that were lost was held in Inverness on Sunday.

Firefighters dressed in full gear climbed 110 flights of stars with other Citrus County residents to remember the 343 firefighters lost on 9/11.

Using stairs at Citrus Memorial Hospital, they said each step was a reminder of what was lost 13 years ago.

This is the second time firefighter Kim Billingsley has done the climb.

"It is one of the most grueling things I've ever put my body through," she said.

Before the stair climb, a ceremony was held and as well as a moment of silence.

Brittany Bielfeld talked about her father she never really got to know. He was a firefighter killed on 9/11.

"I'm there to support my dad and what he did," she said. "I'm always there for him and he was very brave in what he did."

For some it can take as long as three hours to complete the climb, but everyone agrees, it is the least they can do to honor the fallen.

"We remember them every day," Billingsley said. "That's how we do it in the fire service."

It was an emotional day to say thank you for the many who sacrificed their lives 13 years ago.

This is the fifth year the event has been held. Money was also raised for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
