Adam Matos, the suspect in a quadruple murder in Hudson, has been officially charged.

Matos, 28, is accused of killing the mother of his 4-year-old son, Megan Brown, her parents Margaret and Greg Brown and Brown's new boyfriend, Nicholas Leonard.

Deputies discovered their bodies Sept. 4 after they went to the Hudson home on Hattaras Drive to conduct a welfare check.

A massive manhunt for Matos ensued and an Amber Alert was issued for 4-year-old Tristan.

A cab driver told detectives he had picked up the suspect and boy near the murder scene and dropped them off at the Greyhound bus station in Tampa.

A witness there told detectives Matos had asked where he could find a hotel, and the witness suggested the Floridan Hotel, where Matos was later captured. Tristan was found unharmed.

Matos told reporters while being escorted from the hotel he had nothing to do with the killings.

He was being held on an aggravated assault charge stemming from an accusation he pulled a knife on Megan Brown on Aug. 28.

Pasco County deputies had gone to the house on that day to investigate the incident, but Matos wasn't there.

Brown's friend Tonya Carlson said Brown also called her, saying Matos was out of control.

"She was terrified. She said he was crazy, and if the police don't find him before he comes back to the house, he's going to kill her,” Carlson told Bay News 9. “She was terrified. She was petrified for her life."

A complaint affidavit released by the Pasco County Sheriff's Office details Matos' actions around the time deputies think the murders were committed.

Officials discovered Matos made more than 200 calls to Brown and her family on the 28th.

Carlson said Brown told her that day everything seemed to change.

"It was no doubt in her mind that if they didn't find him before he found her he was going to take her son and her life was going to end," she said.

Margaret Brown was also seen leaving work for the last time that day, and it was the last time anyone saw or heard from Gregory Brown and Leonard.

A neighbor told deputies he saw Matos outside the home early in the morning on August 29th. The man said he appeared to be out of breath and sweating.

When the neighbor asked where the others were, he said Matos told him they were in West Virginia and he was home alone.

On the same day, Matos sold several dogs the family owned. A woman who bought one of the dogs said she smelled a foul odor at the house when she went to pick the dog up.

Also that day, Matos bought a long-handled shovel, according to the affidavit.

Investigators also learned Matos bought a couple of pizzas with one of the victim's debit cards on Sept. 1 and 2. One of the delivery drivers reported smelling a foul odor as well.

When deputies conducted a welfare check at the house on Sept. 4, they say, they found a bullet in the driveway. They also found blood in the garage and on several large rugs and blankets.

The victims’ bodies were found in a field near the house. Two of the victims were shot. The other victims suffered blunt force trauma, according to the medical examiner.

Matos is now being held without bond at the Pasco County Jail.
