A long-time cancer fundraiser is ending, but the chairwoman of the event says that's actually good for local cancer patients.

The Cattle Baron's Ball has raised more than $825,000 over the last 10 years to support the fight against cancer. Money raised every year at the Cattle Baron's Ball has gone to the American Cancer Society, which uses it for research and other things.

Theresa Foster, the 2014 Citrus County Cattle Baron's Ball chairwoman, told the Citrus County Chronicle cancer fundraising will continue in the county, but the emphasis will be on keeping the money local.

Dr. Joseph Bennett, a local oncologist, has founded Citrus Aid Cancer Foundation. Bennett told the Chronicle many of the individuals and businesses that supported the Cattle Baron’s Ball have turned their support to Citrus Aid, which is focused on bringing direct help to local cancer sufferers.
