The Citrus County Animal Shelter has a new director.

Kevin Mallory took the job recently. He spent 18 years with Pasco County Animal Services after retiring from the Air Force.

Mallory said he hopes to find ways to keep more animals from ending up at the shelter and will work hard to find good homes for the animals that do end up there.

According to the Citrus County Chronicle, 1,863 cats and 468 dogs were euthanized by the county last year.

Mallory started his new job about three weeks ago.
