Saturday is National Seat Check Day, and parents who want to make sure they're using their children's car seats properly can check with the experts in Clearwater.

Sunstar Paramedics, in partnership with the Safe Kids Coalition, is conducting free safety seat checks for any parent or caregiver who comes to Dick Norris GMC between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Experts say one child under 13 years old is involved in a crash every 34 seconds. Car seats can save lives, but they must be used correctly. Nearly all parents and caregivers believe their child’s safety seat is installed correctly, but seven out of ten children are improperly restrained, according to SeatCheck.org.

The event is hosted in conjunction with Safe Kids, All Children’s Hospital, Clearwater Police Department, Dick Norris GMC and local fire departments and public safety organizations.

Dick Norris GMC is located at 18200 US Highway 19 North in Clearwater

Sunstar Paramedics personnel will demonstrate how to properly secure a child in a vehicle and how to correctly install a car seat.
