A St. Petersburg man who was walking on U.S. 19 in Hudson around 4:20 a.m. Saturday was struck by a vehicle and killed, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Troopers said Tommy Lee Owens, 45, was walking in the center lane of northbound U.S. 19 south of Beacon Woods Drive when he was hit by a 2012 Toyota Prius. Owens suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Investigators didn't say whether they knew why Owens was in Hudson. They were working to determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol.
The driver of the Prius, 26-year-old Angel Hidalgo-Rivera of Brooksville, was not injured.
