A Bay area family is glad to finally be home after getting stranded in Cabo San Lucas along with a thousand other Americans due to Hurricane Odile.

Billy Healis and his wife Danielle never thought they would be snapping pictures of what hurricane Odile left behind while on vacation Mexico.

“It started to sink in that we just might be in trouble here,” said Danielle Healis.

Danielle and Billy flew to Cabo last Sunday and at first things seemed normal, until they caught wind of a hurricane coming.

“All the locals were saying don’t worry about it, we’ve lived here all of our lives, we don’t get hit with hurricanes just might be a little wind or little rain,” said Billy Healis.

But around 6 p.m. that day, hurricane Odile finally hit and brought in more than just a little rain and wind.

“It was a few more hours of really loud wind, you could hear the roof ripping,” said Danielle Healis.

As the storm passed, chaos poured in. For the next day and half, the couple was in complete limbo with only limited amount of food and water.

They couldn’t leave the hotel due to the extensive road damage and if they decided to do so, the hotel wouldn’t allow them back in.

“You feel very helpless, I mean with absolutely no knowledge of what’s going to happen or what the future will bring,” said Danielle Healis.

Through Facebook, the couple was able to find out information from friends.

Finally on Wednesday, Danielle and Billy along with several hundred other stranded Americans in their hotel, were transported to the airport.

The couple was back in Tampa on Thursday.
