A 12-year-old boy was killed and his younger brother, mother and another adult were seriously injured in a crash in Hudson on Saturday.

The crash happened just before noon and involved a 2002 Ford Windstar van carrying four family members from New Port Richey and a 2005 Chevrolet Impala.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the van, driven by 44-year-old Monique Kelly, was traveling north on Little Road through the intersection of Bolton Road when it was struck on the driver's side by the Impala.

The van overturned along the north shoulder of Little Road, hit a road sign and came to rest on the shoulder.

Kelly and her two sons, 12-year-old Ernest Michael Kelly and 6-year-old William Denis Kelly, were ejected. Ernest Kelly was taken to Tampa's St. Joseph's Hospital and died an hour after the crash, troopers said.

Monique Kelly, the younger child and the second adult, 71-year-old Michael Kelly, were taken to two hospitals with serious injuries. Michael Kelly was the only occupant in the van wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the Impala, 25-year-old Kayla Freeman of Hudson, was not injured. Her 5-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Charges are pending, the FHP said.
