Some Manatee County residents who want to put on a big Halloween show are facing some setbacks.

For the second year in a row, Brad Myers was hoping to attract hundreds to the haunted house he’s now building outside of his West Bradenton home.

But to his surprise, he won’t be able to put on the spooky show as planned.

“We finally got it all built up and as we started to paint and decorate it, the city said it all has to come down,” said Myers.

Brad was told the front section was considered an accessory structure and against city code. He now has until Sunday to remove it or face fines.

James Bryington, Brad’s haunted house partner, said they’re disappointed.

“I’m kind of upset about it,” said Bryington. “Last year, they allowed it and code enforcement came out and approved it.”

The men said this isn’t stopping them from putting on the haunted house and they are now in the process of moving everything to the back yard.

However, they are worried this will delay the opening.

“It hurts, but we need to comply,” said Myers. “I can’t fight it or it will be too late to do a haunted house this year.”

The haunted house isn’t just for entertainment. The men put it on to help others.

All proceeds from the haunted house to go the Safe Children Coalition.

Last year, they donated $600 to the local charity. This year, they hope to raise even more.

“It’s going to be tough, but we’ll get it done,” said Bryington.

If all goes well, the haunted house will open on October 17.

The home is located at: 3512 York Drive West in Bradenton.
