A memorial service is being held this weekend to remember longtime community activist Jetie Wilds Jr.

Wilds dedicated his life to informing African Americans in the Bay area.

"He wasn't one that was seeking the spotlight so to say, but he loved what he did, being able to give back in that way," said personal friend James Ransom.

Wilds wrote a weekly column in La Gaceta Newspaper. He was a radio host for the WTMP-AM public affairs talk show "Citizen's Report."

Wilds also co-founded the Saturday Morning Breakfast group to bring the community together to discuss important issues of the day.

Friends said Wilds passing has left behind a void.

"I'm going to miss Jetie," said NAACP President Dr. Carolyn Collins. "There will be a part of people who will fill part of his shoes but all of his shoes will never be filled."

"That type of selfless community servant doesn't come around too often," said Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn

Wilds, a graduate from Morehouse College in Atlanta, was 74 years old.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Tampa at 11 a.m.
