Heavy rain caused flooding in parts of the Bay area on Friday evening.

Flood warnings have been issued for Hillsborough and Manatee counties until tomorrow.

A food warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.

Trapnell Road is completely under water between Mud Lake Road and James L Redman Pkwy in Plant City. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.

Flooding has also been reported on Bayshore Blvd. and along Hesperdies and Lambright streets in Tampa.

Vehicles have been reported stuck in the water, which in some areas has been reported to be waist deep.

Jose Vazquez said he had just picked up his two daughters from school near the Egypt Lake neighborhood. He said it started pouring rain which caught him off-guard.

"As I was driving the car started shifting a little bit," aid Vazquez. "I felt the car was moving so I tried to turn the tires and they kept peeling."

He said the next thing he knew they were swept into a ditch.

"The girls panicked a little bit but we were all able to climb through the passenger side to safety. We stood on the road for awhile and then we treaded back, the water was about knee high," he said.

Other cars got stuck, too. Vazquez estimates he saw about 8 to 10 cars stalled. He said one woman had to be helped out of her car by neighbors.

Some residents said they don't recall ever seeing flooding this bad in their neighborhood before.

"Not like this," said Robert Wilson. "I mean I've seen flooding but not like this."

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue was on the scene to make sure everybody was OK.

No injuries are being reported.

As a precaution, do not drive your vehicle into areas of high water, even if the water does not appear to be moving your vehicle may stall, trapping you in the flooded area.

Keep children and small pets away from storm drains. As flood waters swell around these areas strong currents may develop and pull children and pets into the drain and into an extremely dangerous and life threatening situation.

According to Bay News 9 Meteorologist Brian McClure, the rain will die down overnight.

"Saturday will start out quiet with sunny to partly cloudy skies. Another round of storms will develop in the afternoon," McClure said. "They will have a westward movement, resulting in storms moving toward the Gulf in the late afternoon/evening."
