A 1-year-old girl was killed Thursday evening when her father accidentally backed over her in his SUV.

And now, the child's father, 22-year-old Kristian Brown, is behind bars.

The accident occurred around 6:52 p.m. in the 600 block of 13th Avenue South.

Police said Kriziyah Brown was standing behind a Dodge Durango, which was parked in the driveway of the home.

Kristian Brown was backing the vehicle out of the driveway and did not know his daughter was standing behind it, police said. The vehicle ran over her, unbeknownst to her father, who started to drive away until he was informed of the accident by the mother, who was standing nearby.

The child died at the scene.

Kristian Brown, meanwhile, is now in jail because he was not supposed to be driving. Police say Brown was driving on a suspended or revoked license at the time of the accident.

Officers investigating the accident arrested Brown after information came to light about his driving status. Police also say a small amount of marijuana was found in the SUV.

According to police, Brown was arrested three times last year for driving on a suspended license.

Those previous arrests likely will play a role in how the state attorney will prosecute this case.

Brown is being held without bail.
