The Citrus County Chamber of Commerce has decided to not support a proposed sales tax for road repairs.

A referendum is on the November ballot calling for a 1 percent tax hike to pay for, among other things, the resurfacing of residential roads in the county.

According to the Citrus County Chronicle, the chamber believes the tax isn't necessary and that it would be a burden to taxpayers.

There are several town meetings scheduled before election day to talk about the referendum. The first of those is from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Lakes Region Library in Inverness. For more on the Cent for Citrus town hall meetings, go to www.bocc.citrus.fl.us.
