Thousands of voters received flyers from Gov. Rick Scott's campaign about their absentee ballots over the weekend.

The flyers told voters they should have received their absentee ballots by now, and to mail them back to the Supervisor of Elections as quickly as possible.

The problem?  By law, the ballots were not allowed to go out until Tuesday.

Scott's campaign spokesperson Jackie Schutz said the flyers arrived in mailboxes earlier than expected, which is why they referenced absentee ballots that hadn't even been sent out yet.

Pasco County Supervisor of Elections Brian Corley said the confusion isn't good for voters. Over 20,000 people in Pasco County alone received the flyers.

“When you have the flyers go out to potentially upwards of a million plus voters saying, 'Your ballots have arrived,' I don’t believe that actually increases voter confidence," he said. "I think that only helps to erode voter confidence."

Schutz released the following statement to the media.

“Voting by mail is important, and we hope that all voters will receive and  return their vote-by-mail ballots promptly. With his strong record of job  creation and record investments in education, we¹re confident voters will  cast their vote-by-mail ballots for Rick Scott.”

Over 50,000 vote-by-mail ballots went out Tuesday in Pasco County.
