A new show to help songwriters get on the map just started and one local man is hoping to make his mark.

With every word Johnny Jones writes down, his dream of becoming a song writer for the stars grows. He’s a country boy at heart, a father of five, and a Gulf War veteran. He also works at Publix.

“Some of my customers have dubbed me or nicknamed me the singing janitor there,” said Jones.

Jones started writing songs 15 years ago.

“I jokingly wrote my first song and people said it was pretty good that I sang it for.”

From there the words kept flowing.

“I don’t want to be the performer or the famous guy on stage or anything,” said Jones.

He just wants to get his songs into their hands. So he entered the show “Do I have a hit song?” Which, according to its website, is played worldwide.

“The stars have to align, it is a hard business to break into,” he said.

Jones is now one of the nine contestants to be featured on the next episode. He will be singing “Daddy’s Little Boy.”

“One of the first songs I wrote was called Daddy’s Girl, and my two older boys were a little set back by that and they’re like well you didn’t write nothing about us,” said Jones.

Jones said even if his future in song writing isn’t as harmonious as he wants it to be, he still has gained a lot.

“Even if Alan Jackson or none of those guys do my music, I have that to leave for my children,” he said.

The episode will air January 20. You can view and vote on the shows website.
