A Sarasota man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for raping a 14-year-old girl who was on her way to school.

A judge ruled Monday that Brian Lacy will be on lifetime sex offender probation when he's released from prison.

Jurors in November convicted Lacy for the October 2013 rape.

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports Lacy told the girl to keep quiet about the rape. She did for several days, but told her mother. The state attorney's office says the girl's family confronted Lacy, who offered $10,000 to keep them from going to police.

Lacy was already a convicted sexual offender. After the trial he pleaded no contest for failing to register his address in Sarasota.

Lacy was sentenced as a habitual felony offender and prison release offender.
