A 7-year-old boy is seriously injured after being struck by a minivan on Saturday night, according to Tampa police.

Witnesses said they saw the boy, identified as Armando Larry, run across the Main Street around 5 p.m. with several other children. The boy was the last to cross when a gray 2015 Dodge Journey Minivan traveling west passed the intersection of N. Rome Ave and hit him.

The driver of the minivan, 28-year-old Meybel Aguila, said he stopped and attempted to give the boy CPR.

"It’s the right thing to do,” Aguila said.  “I mean, nobody wants to go through this."

Aguila said he was unsure about the boy’s injuries, or how he was doing.

"I couldn't tell," Aguila said. "I've been asking, but they haven't said anything."

Aguila was in the vehicle with his pregnant wife during the incident.

Tampa police haven't released any additional information regarding what led up to the crash or the boy's injuries.

The boy was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital.

Police said there are no signs of impairment due to drugs or alcohol of the driver and speed is not a factor in this crash.

The crash is under investigation.
