Clearwater police have identified the victim of a single-vehicle crash Monday on the Courtney Campbell Causeway.
According to police, 61-year-old Charles Allen Bushnell, Jr. of Shreveport, La. was killed Monday in a crash occurred that happened on the Clearwater side of the causeway shortly before 3 p.m.
According to Clearwater Police, Bushnell was the driver of a truck hauling an empty trailer eastbound near the small bridge when he veered off the right side of the road and ran along the guardrail for a while before veering back into the traffic lanes after hitting a large portable highway sign.
The vehicle then grazed along the median wall nearest the left lane before finally coming to a stop, police say.
Bushnell was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he later was pronounced dead.
