A Lakeland attorney was arrested after deputies said he threatened them with a gun, a knife and a baseball bat.

Eduardo Pujol, 48, is facing charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and criminal mischief.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, deputies were sent to a home on Laurel Branch Court after receiving a call about a suspect who was repeatedly hitting the front door with an aluminum baseball bat and yelling at the victim.

“I actually thought it was my door that was being beaten on when I was awoke and it was across the street but it sounded like it was right on my front door,” said neighbor Jonathan Waters.

Officials said Pujol's family had warned the victim that Pujol was enraged and coming to the victim's house, which is when the victim and several other people called law enforcement.

“He was just saying the homeowner’s name, ‘come out brother. Let’s talk. Come on, let’s hang out brother. Come on out.’ And just kept repeating that,” Waters said.

When deputies arrived, they ordered Pujol to drop the bat, which is when Pujol screamed, "I will shoot you" at them, the report said.

While this was happening, Pujol had his left hand behind his back. Deputies said Pujol also implied he had a knife and threatened to stab deputies, and also threatened to bash in their heads with the bat.

Waters saw the whole thing unfold and said Pujol is lucky the deputy didn't shoot him.

“The gentleman kept saying that he had a gun, go ahead and shoot me,” Waters said. “I’m going to shoot y'all and the sheriff’s office, the deputy, this one deputy on scene kept saying, ‘drop the bat, drop the bat.’ He said, ‘I don’t want to shoot you’ and he showed great, great restraint.”

A deputy approached Pujol and deployed his Taser, debilitating the suspect so deputies could subdue him and take him into custody.

Deputies said Pujol did not have a knife or a firearm on him.

Pujol was taken to the Polk County Jail, where he is being held without bond. Legal websites list Pujol as a personal injury attorney who works out of Lakeland.
